Under the Hood

How Sweetopia Lab Works

The color science and engineering behind the fruit-mixing system.

Sweetopia Lab uses a real-time color-blending algorithm that maps each fruit to a defined color position on the HSL spectrum. When you add an apple (deep red, hue ~0°), a banana (warm yellow, hue ~55°), and a grape (violet, hue ~275°) to the laboratory simultaneously, the engine calculates a weighted average across all three hue vectors, producing a blended output color that genuinely reflects the combination rather than approximating it.

The palette generation system goes one step further: after producing the base mix, the app constructs a full 5-color scheme by applying complementary, analogous, and triadic offset rules. This means every palette exported from Sweetopia is not just a single hex value — it is a complete, professional-grade color scheme ready for immediate use in design tools. The 10-fruit catalog (Apple, Orange, Banana, Strawberry, Lemon, Kiwi, Pineapple, Grape, Watermelon, Cherry) provides a palette space of over 1,000 unique combinations.

User progress is tracked across five achievement categories — First Mix, Recipe Master, Color Artist, Dedicated, and Experimenter — each mapped to specific usage milestones. The Stats screen visualizes weekly mixing activity through a horizontal bar chart segmented by day of week, allowing you to identify when you engage most creatively. Recipe storage uses custom naming and tagging so your best combinations are instantly searchable and organized in the Gallery.

What You Get

Six Core Capabilities

Every feature is built around active color discovery, not passive browsing.

Fruit Laboratory
Add any combination of fruits from the 10-item catalog into the laboratory workspace and watch the color output update in real time as each fruit's hue contributes to the final blend.
Palette Generator
Generate complete, harmonious 5-color schemes from your fruit selections. The app applies complementary and analogous color theory rules automatically, producing palettes ready for design or artwork.
Recipe Library
Save your favorite fruit combinations as named recipes with custom tags. Build a searchable personal library that lets you revisit and reproduce any color mix you have discovered.
Color Theory Lessons
Learn color theory through interactive lessons embedded in the Stats section. Each lesson ties directly to the mixing mechanics, letting you see principles demonstrated live with the fruits you already use.
Activity Statistics
Track your weekly mixing activity through a day-by-day bar chart, monitor which fruits appear most in your experiments, and view your favorite flavor combinations over time.
Achievement System
Six progressive badges — First Mix, Recipe Master, Color Artist, Dedicated, Experimenter, and Collector — reward distinct usage behaviors and encourage you to explore every corner of the app.
In Action

The Mixing System Explained

From fruit selection to finished palette — the full workflow.

Fruit Catalog and Selection

  • 10 fruits available across four categories: Citrus (Orange, Lemon), Berry (Strawberry, Grape, Cherry), Tropical (Banana, Pineapple, Kiwi), and Stone (Apple, Watermelon)
  • Category filters on the Select Fruits screen narrow the catalog instantly — tap Citrus to see only yellow and orange-hued contributors
  • Live search with the "Search fruits..." field locates any fruit by name before you commit to a combination
  • Multiple fruits selected simultaneously feed into the laboratory, and each additional fruit immediately updates the blended preview

Laboratory and Output

  • Real-time blending means color output changes every time you add or remove a fruit — no submit button, no delays
  • Advanced algorithms weigh each fruit's saturation and brightness contribution alongside its hue, preventing muddy results from high-contrast pairs
  • Save as Recipe stores the exact fruit list, the resulting color, and any custom name or tag you assign — retrievable anytime from Gallery
  • Palette export derives five harmonically spaced colors from your mix, labeled with their hex codes for immediate use in design software
